According to executive director of the Indonesian Footwear Association, Singgih Witarso, footwear manufacturers are increasing their footwear market share in the domestic market from 40% to 60%.
Footwear and textile manufacturers in Indonesia are keen on modernizing their machinery using government funds and increasing production for domestic consumption.
Footwear manufacturers previously allocated 60% of its total production output for export, with the rest going to domestic demand. They are now trying to reverse the trend by targeting 60% for the domestic market and 40% for export.
Under the machinery revitalization program, the government has provided US5.17 million for the footwear industry this year to help boost productivity.
Under the subsidy scheme, the government will pay 10% of the total price of new machinery, to be reimbursed by the manufacturers.
